Ksenija Hadzimuratovic

In beautiful ancient city of Dubrovnik in Croatia I was born July 7th, 1937. My father gave me a name Ksenija and my grandmother Marija raised me…

With my neighbor Nina I am going to Banja Luka in Bosnia for a vacation. That was 1960. Banja Luka amazed me. I have decided to stay there. I got a job and made friends enjoying my youth. Banja Luka is a gorgeous city on the river Vrabas and most beautiful walks. Lots of people fall in love by that river.  I met my husband Professor Remzija.  I married him. I gave a birth to a beautiful little girl Suzana and we all lived in a happy family and a great town.

War started sometime in 1992. Dirty, bloody and terrible war in Bosnia, which had the most mixed marriages as, was mine. The World needed to stop this but it didn’t. Many people got killed…Why did all that happen? Why?  During that horrible war we were trying to survive with no hot water, no electricity and not enough food. We had sirens going on almost every day warning about danger. With a great risk I manage to get my daughter out of Bosnia to my sister in Slovenia. In 1994 UNHCR manage to get us out of Bosnia to Croatia.

After one year we went as refuges to Germany.  Germany gave us place to stay and food. We stay there until 1998. Germany gave us a choice to go back to our destroyed country because the war ended or to look for other country that will accept us. We applied to America.  America took us as refuges and gave us everything man needed in democratic country. This country doesn’t ask what religion or nationality you are had to be. It asks only of you to be honest, righteous and hard working. And that means good life…
