I was born in Guatemala in 1955, I have 4 brothers and 3 sisters. When I was a little girl I really liked to go to school I dreamed that one day I would have some kind of title (University), unfortunately my dream never came true because of our lack of money.
My family was very poor and I was the oldest of my siblings. I had to start working in the fields when I was 8 years old to help my parents. I got married when I was 21 years old and I had 2 kids.
In 1985 my situation was so bad that I made the decision of coming to the United States, leaving my daughter of 4 years ½ and my son almost 7 years old. I came illegally and left my kids with my family for 7 years.
In 1992 after working very hard andsaving some money with a lot of sacrifices I was able to bring my two kids. In 1997 I got my Permanent Residence in this country, and another dream started that one day I would became a Citizen.
My wish to get my citizenship was mostly to finally feel that I belong here in this country that gave me so many opportunities and gave me some privileges and most important be able to apply to immigration so one day my parents and my siblings can became residents of this country too. That would me the only way to take them out of extreme poverty and suffering that they go through because of the corruption in Guatemala. First I thank God, and I feel very proud to say that I am a citizen of the United States. God bless this country always.
